BREAKING: Nashville International Airport Will Be Renamed in Honor of Dolly Parton

Nashville is about to give one of its own the highest honor a city can offer: naming its front door after her.

Nashville International Airport, known as BNA, announced its intent to rename the airport in honor of Dolly Parton, creating a lasting tribute to her legacy and the generations of people she's inspired across Tennessee and beyond. Her team was consulted on the proposal and expressed appreciation for the outpouring of support, saying they're touched by the idea and open to continuing the conversation.

"BNA is the front door to Music City, and with that comes a responsibility to reflect the very best of who we are as a community," said Doug Kreulen, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority. "Dolly's remarkable legacy reminds us that what makes Nashville special is our ability to welcome people from every walk of life."

Born in Sevier County, Dolly built a career that became inseparable from Tennessee itself, but her impact reaches far past music. Through the Dollywood Foundation's Imagination Library, she has provided nearly 200 million free books to children across the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, and Ireland since 1995, mailing more than 2 million books a month to kids from birth to age five.

The proposal will be formally addressed at the Metro Nashville Airport Authority's meeting on September 17, with more details expected in the weeks ahead.

Millions of travelers pass through BNA every year. Soon, the first thing they'll see is her name.
