Sometimes, the greatest gifts can’t be bought—they’re grown with love.
After radiation treatment for a recurring benign brain tumor, Arizona mother of six Melanie Shaha lost her hair permanently. Although the treatment protected her health, losing her hair took a heavy toll on her confidence. 
Her son Matt once joked that he’d grow his own hair and turn it into a wig for her. But instead of letting it remain a joke, he made it a promise. 
For more than two and a half years, Matt carefully grew his strawberry-blond hair until it reached 12 inches. He then donated it to a specialist wig maker and spent $2,000 on a custom hand-tied wig designed to closely match his mother’s original hair. 
The first time Melanie put it on, she saw a version of herself she thought she’d lost forever. 
To Matt, it was only hair. To his mother, it was a priceless gift that restored her confidence, brought her comfort, and helped her feel like herself again.
