At just 20 years old, Princess Leonor stands first in line to the Spanish throne. If she eventually succeeds her father, King Felipe VI, she will become Spain’s first queen regnant since Queen Isabella II, whose reign came to an end in 1868.
Born in 2005, Leonor has spent her entire life preparing for the possibility of becoming Spain’s future head of state. Her education has been shaped around the demands of the monarchy, with a strong focus on areas such as law, international relations, languages, and diplomacy.
But her preparation isn’t limited to academics. The princess is also completing rigorous military training across Spain’s armed forces, gaining experience connected to the monarch’s constitutional role as commander-in-chief.
As she has grown older, Leonor has gradually stepped further into public life, delivering speeches, attending major national ceremonies, carrying out royal duties, and representing the Spanish Crown.
For Spain, her future accession would be more than a royal succession. It would mark the return of a reigning queen for the first time in almost a century and a half
