Pygmy marmosets escaped the zoo, but staff are still confused by how one survived a week riding a Komodo dragon.

Pygmy marmosets are some of the smallest monkeys in the zoo, so when staff did a headcount and realized a few were missing, the search started immediately.
Two were found within hours.

But one stayed missing for nearly a week. Staff feared the worst until a trail camera near the reptile area captured something nobody expected. The tiny marmoset was riding on the back of a Komodo dragon.

At first, everyone thought it made no sense. A monkey that small should have been in danger around an animal that powerful, but the footage showed the marmoset calmly sitting on its back while picking at insects near the dragon’s eyes and neck.

Animal specialists believe the two may have accidentally formed a strange kind of partnership. The marmoset was eating flies and bugs, while the Komodo dragon was getting relief from insects bothering its face.

Staff eventually recovered the little runaway safely, but the footage had already gone viral.

The zoo thought they were looking for a missing monkey, but apparently he had found the most dangerous ride in the park.
