Happy 75th Birthday, Karen Allen!

Born on October 5, 1951, in Carrollton, Illinois, Karen turns 75 today. Her career has brought us adventurous heroines, intimate dramas and Christmas comedy, with characters whose determination often matters as much as their humor.

She made her film debut as Katy in National Lampoon's Animal House (1978), before taking on the role that introduced her to generations of adventure fans: Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981).

Opposite Harrison Ford, Karen made Marion resourceful, outspoken and entirely capable of challenging Indiana Jones. From her Nepalese tavern to the film's perilous journey, Marion's personality gave the adventure an energy all its own.

She returned in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023). Those appearances made Marion a continuing part of Indiana's story, connecting the later Lucasfilm films with the original adventure.

In John Carpenter's Starman (1984), she played Jenny Hayden opposite Jeff Bridges. The science-fiction romance centered on a grieving woman confronting an extraordinary visitor, and Allen's performance helped ground its unusual premise in recognizable human feeling.

Christmas movie fans also know her as Claire Phillips in Scrooged (1988), alongside Bill Murray. Claire's compassion gives the film an emotional center beneath its television satire and supernatural chaos.

Her later films include The Perfect Storm (2000) and the independent drama Colewell (2019). Away from blockbuster adventures, those roles offered different settings for the quiet resolve that has always been a feature of her screen work.

Her newest projects include Other Mommy, the Jessica Chastain-led horror film scheduled to open in American theaters on October 9, 2026. Allen joins a supporting cast in a story based on Josh Malerman's novel Incidents Around the House.

On this milestone birthday, we celebrate the actress who made Marion Ravenwood someone audiences wanted beside Indiana Jones whenever the adventure began.
