By the 1970s and 80s, he was one of those actors audiences seemed to recognise straight away. He had an easy, natural style on screen and a real gift for comedy, but he had already been working for years before becoming so well known.

His career began in childhood, which meant he grew up around film sets, television studios and professional actors. That early experience clearly stayed with him, because by the time he was taking on bigger television roles he already looked completely at ease in front of the camera.

Over the years he became especially well known for playing likeable, slightly cheeky characters, often with a relaxed charm that made him very easy to watch.
