🥥 How to make homemade coconut oil – Simple step-by-step instructions

Making your own coconut oil is a simple and satisfying process that results in a pure, high-quality product. By following a few simple steps, you can make your own natural coconut oil without relying on commercial brands. Whether you want to use it for cooking, skincare, or hair care, homemade coconut oil guarantees optimal quality, free from additives and preservatives. Here's a detailed step-by-step guide with practical tips for successful oil extraction.

Supplies:

3 to 4 mature coconuts (the older they are, the more oil they contain)

Water

Blender or food processor

Fine cloth or fine-mesh strainer

Large bowl

Spoon or spatula

Step 1: Preparing the Coconuts
Start by cracking a mature coconut. You can use a hammer or the back of a large knife to pound the shell until it cracks. Collect the coconut water in a container; you can use it for other purposes or drink it straight.

Then, carefully separate the white coconut flesh from the shell using a knife or a coconut grater. Rinse the flesh with water to remove any remaining shell.

Step 2: Blend the Coconut Flesh
Cut the coconut flesh into small pieces for easier blending. Place the pieces in a blender or food processor and add a little water to extract the coconut milk. The recommended ratio is two cups of coconut flesh to one cup of water.

Blend to form a thick, creamy paste. You may need to pause blending briefly to remove any remaining coconut milk and achieve a smooth consistency.

Step 3: Extract the Coconut Milk
Place a thin cloth or strainer over a large bowl and pour the blended coconut paste into it. Gently squeeze to extract as much of the liquid—the coconut milk—as possible. The more liquid you squeeze out, the more oil will remain later.
