On July 14, a Seattle woman named Kiana Hall spotted an unusual raccoon emerging from under a car near the Ballard Goodwill. She filmed five seconds of footage, posted it to Instagram with the caption "What am I looking at?", and named him Jimothy because, as she put it, he simply looked like a Jimothy. The video has since racked up millions of views and counting.
Jimothy's distinctive look comes from what experts believe is a congenital spinal deformity, likely short spine syndrome, which compresses the backbone and gives him his signature spherical, short-necked appearance. A veterinary professor at Washington State University who reviewed footage said he appears to be getting around just fine, which is a very good sign for a wild animal with his condition.
But here's the part the internet didn't know... Until now! A local resident named Amanda has been spotting him around the Ballard neighborhood since 2023, back when he was just a baby, and her family had their own name for him. They called him Nubby.
She shared footage of baby Jimothy, round and compact and unmistakably himself even as a tiny raccoon, and the internet is losing its mind all over again.
He's been quietly living his best life in Ballard for years, waddling around porches and back patios, completely unbothered
