Russia has delivered a blunt accusation against Washington and Tel Aviv: this war is not simply about nuclear facilities, missiles or regional security. Moscow claims the real objective is to destroy Iran’s government because Tehran refused to obey American and Israeli demands.

According to Russia, Iran is being targeted not because it represents an immediate threat, but because it insists on following an independent political path rather than accepting orders from foreign powers.

That allegation changes the entire framing of the conflict.

If Moscow’s assessment is correct, then the attacks are not about preventing war—they are about forcing submission and removing a government that refuses to surrender its sovereignty.

The United States and Israel strongly dispute that interpretation, arguing that their actions are directed at security threats posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions and military network.

But Russia’s warning raises a question the world cannot ignore: is this truly a defensive operation, or another attempt at regime change in the Middle East?

Because history has already shown how catastrophically those experiments can end
