The first words he spoke after nearly seven years in a vegetative state were:

 

Song Mei, I love you.” 

Those five simple words carried the weight of years of hope, sacrifice, and unconditional love.

In October 2019, Zhao Jinqian from Henan, China  climbed onto the roof of a warehouse to rescue a three-year-old child. Suddenly, the roof collapsed, and he fell nearly six meters to the ground. 

He protected the child with his own body, saving the youngster's life.  But the fall caused severe brain injuries, leaving Zhao in a vegetative state. 

His wife, Song Mei, made a life-changing decision. She left her job as a kindergarten art teacher  to become his full-time caregiver. Every day, she spoke to him , massaged his muscles , helped with his rehabilitation , and never stopped believing he could come back.

Doctors advised her to stimulate his fingers and toes to encourage recovery. One day, she gently bit one of his toes and noticed the tiniest reaction.  Encouraged, she continued this unusual technique by covering his foot with a clean food bag and gently repeating it as part of his daily therapy.

But the real miracle wasn't that unique method.  It was her unwavering love, endless patience, and determination to stand by him through years when there seemed to be no hope.

Then, in 2026, the impossible happened. 

Zhao finally regained enough awareness to look at his wife and say:

“Song Mei, I love you.” 

Sometimes, the greatest act of love isn't a single heroic moment. It's choosing to stay, to care, and to believe—day after day—until hope finally answers back.
