The earwig is found under every pot, in every compost corner, and inside almost every garden shed, and almost every gardener removes it on sight.
Those pincers are not for humans. They are used exclusively on other insects and as a defensive tool against predators. Earwigs eat aphids, mites and decaying organic matter, functioning simultaneously as a pest controller and a decomposer in the same garden in the same night.
A female earwig is also one of the most devoted parents in the insect world — guarding her eggs through winter, turning them regularly to prevent fungal growth, and staying with her nymphs through their first weeks until they can fend for themselves.
The creature under the pot is not an intruder. It has been working there the entire time.
