Borrow Not a Few – Preparing for Overflow" Text: 2 Kings 4:1–7

 

In this passage, a desperate widow approaches Elisha because a creditor is coming to take her two sons. Elisha asks her what she has, and she replies, “Nothing but a jar of oil.” His instruction? “Go, borrow vessels… borrow not a few.”

1. Your Need Can Birth a Miracle (2 Kings 4:1–2)
• The woman was in crisis.
• God often uses need as a setup for His supernatural provision.
• What you have, no matter how small (a jar of oil), is enough when God steps in.

2. Faith Requires Preparation (2 Kings 4:3)
• “Borrow not a few.” The level of your faith is shown in how much you're willing to prepare.
• She was told to gather empty vessels—God fills what is empty, yielded, and ready.

3. Obedience Activates Provision (2 Kings 4:4–6)
• The oil flowed as long as there were vessels.
• If she had borrowed only a few, her miracle would have been limited.
• Sometimes, it’s not God who limits us, but our lack of preparation and expectation.

4. Provision with Purpose (2 Kings 4:7)
• She didn’t just survive—she paid her debts and lived on the rest.
• God doesn’t bless us to hoard but to walk in freedom and bless others.

"Borrow not a few" isn’t just about physical vessels—it’s about mindset, faith, capacity, and obedience.
