Fried Green Tomatoes Recipe
Ingredients
– Vegetable oil (enough to reach 1 ½ inches in skillet)
– 3 green tomatoes, sliced
– 1 cup all-purpose flour
– 1 ½ cups buttermilk
– 1 egg
– 6 dashes hot sauce
– 1 cup regular bread crumbs
– ½ cup yellow cornmeal
– 1 tsp Lawry’s seasoning salt
– ½ tsp white pepper
Instructions
1. Preheat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
2. In a bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper; set aside.
3. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce.
4. Dip tomato slices into buttermilk mixture, then coat in dry ingredients.
5. Fry until golden and crispy, 2–3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
6. Sprinkle with additional salt if desired.
