While in prison, Wright refused to give up. He used the prison library to teach himself law and began helping other inmates with their cases. He worked as a legal assistant for fellow prisoners and helped some people challenge unfair convictions.

Eventually, Wright decided to fight his own case. He wrote legal arguments that helped expose problems in the way kingpin cases were handled. His efforts revealed serious misconduct, including claims that evidence and witness statements had been manipulated by officials involved in his trial.

After years of legal battles, Wright's conviction was overturned, and he was released from prison in 1997 after spending about seven years behind bars.

But Wright did not stop there. He went on to earn a law degree, pass the bar exam, and after a long review process, was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 2017.

Today, Isaac Wright Jr. works as a criminal defense attorney, using his own experience to help others. His incredible journey from inmate to lawyer later inspired the ABC television drama “For Life.”
